Grapefruit is good source of vitamin C beta carotene. If you peel it and eat it like orange you’ll get a good dose of pectin that lowers cholesterol level and fiber that will keep you satiated. As other citrus fruits, grapefruit also contains flavonoids that help prevent damages of the organism and cancer. Red grapefruit contains lycopene that protects membrane of cells and can stop tumor growth, especially prostate tumor.

If you want to choose the right grapefruit choose the heavy one, because it is full with juice. Avoid the soft or oval fruit because they are mostly worse quality and less sweet.
